About Matthew Shell
Matthew's edgy, rhythmic style recently caught the ear of urban jazz pioneer Marcus Johnson. As a result, Matthew's song writing, mixing, and production expertise are now featured on three new songs for the album "FLO Chill," which is part of Marcus Johnson's September 2008 triple album release ("FLO Chill"/"FLO Romance"/"FLO Standards"). These are currently topping the Billboard Jazz Charts (with "FLO Chill" peaking at number 9). All three albums are available now at Circuit City and on iTunes.

Johnson is an accomplished keyboardist, the chairman and CEO of Three Keys Music and Studio 8121, and founder of FLO(TM) Brands. Three Keys, Studio 8121 and two music publishing companies were created from Johnson's partnership with Bob Johnson (no relation), founder and former president and CEO of BET.

INSPIRATION
Matthew's primary inspiration comes from God, Family, Friends, and his life experiences with them. Additional inspiration comes from Matthew's favorite CDs at the moment, which include Al Di Meola's "Winter Nights," the Kings of Convenience's "Riot on an Empty Street," Peter White's "Glow," Dave Grusin's "Mountin Dance" and Delirious' "World Service."
TEAM PROJECTS
In 2004, Matthew completed engineering and mastering the jazz fusion group SoundProof's "Proof of Sound" project. Matthew formerly played guitar as a member of CCR's "Adoration" Praise and Worship Team, lead by Dr. H. Lee Joyner. Matthew currently volunteers for the Mclean Bible Frontline sound team where he works under the direction of Kevin G.
PREVIOUS SOLO PROJECTS
While "Rhythmic Journey" (c2004) featured creative advances in rhythmic pitch alterations and "Live Vibe – The Humble Beginnings" (c2005) succeeded in conveying beauty through a densely melodic, improvisational live sound, Matthew still continues to search for the beauty hidden in the uncharted territories of sound. With each album, Matthew takes giant leaps forward in his ability to coherently express his passion for music and life in new ways.
GOALS AND SOUND
Matthew's vision is focused on energizing the genre of "Film Music" by fusing the elements of Flamenco Guitar, Jazz Drumming, Electronic Experimentation, and Classical Piano Playing in uniquely passionate ways.
The sound of the new album titled "Jaded Generation" is light-years more focused, more realized and purposely more accessible than his prior work, while still maintaining Matthew's passionately avant-garde sensibility.
CONVERSATION
In a recent conversation, Matthew made these comments:
I enjoy getting to know interesting people and finding out how they tick. When I am with people, I try to be less of a talker and more of a listener. That's why I love interview shows like Charlie Rose so much. In my opinion, the most fascinating people I've seen interviewed by Charlie Rose are Gordon Ramsey, Stephen A. Schwarzman, Quentin Tarantino, Steve Wynn and the ultra unorthodox Brian Grazer.
A goal of mine is to become a better non-verbal communicator; hence my music currently contains no lyrics. Avoiding the language barriers that are presented with lyrical music, I hope to impact a broad global audience with my uniquely passionate instrumental style.
Do I create music with an audience in mind? Yes. Me. I am the audience. I want to hear things I do not hear on the radio. And I am betting there are other people out there that will like what I like. My primary goal is to stay in touch with why I enjoy music; always thinking how to keep things fresh, daring, stylized, inventive, passionate, resonant and original. With the multifariously ambitious project "Jaded Generation," the goal that I accomplished was to record 50 songs and take the best cuts and make them into one cohesive masterpiece of an album. It took three years, but I got there. "Film Music - Inspiration for the Jaded Generation" is not just an album, but the beginning of a legacy of musical excellence.
