Passionate, determined, prolific, energetic, creative.
Music lover, mentor, coffee-drinker. Retired from relationships, but in love with the world. Plus, lots more time to devote to music, writing, art, family and friends.
Influences too numerous to list, as my 3,000 record albums demonstrates. But some MAJORS: The Beatles, Gram Parsons, Todd Rundgren, David Bowie, Holland-Dozier-Holland, Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Ryan Adams, Aimee Mann, Leonard Cohen, Brian Wilson, Nick Cave, Radiohead, Amy Winehouse and the Moody Blues.
Style/genres: pop, Americana, rock, soul, folk-rock, country, jazz, blues, indie, even swing.

Skeleton at the Feast
As the title suggests, a haunting, melancholy song. A plaintive hurdy gurdy brings the song in. There are elements of prog rock, emo, folk-rock, classic rock, pop and alternative.

Alternative Retro and Psychedelic

Flying Over the Ocean
Energetic, spirited, driving, fun, melodic, uplifting, inspirational. If you like Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow, and other melodic pop-rock, you might dig this.

Pop

Anything
I would describe this song as a power ballad? In the vein of Nilsson, Brian Adams, Ryan Adams, Aerosmith, Toad the Wet Sprocket.

Rock
h h

Waiting for My Life (To Start Again)
Edgy, dark, pulsing, soulful, modern rock that's slightly industrial, with electronica touches.

Alternative Modern Rock
h h

Stand
Yes, it's an honest-to-gosh protest song. Melodic, with a strong chorus - a little biased - and shades of Counting Crows, The Beatles, Bruce Hornsby, Todd Rundgren, Hootie and the Blowfish, 60's folk-soul-rock. But I wouldn't necessarily call it retro.

Never Saw a Woman
I traveled back in time to Philly, circa 1972, and stole this song from Sigma Sounds Studios...or was it off the air from WFIL-AM, Boss radio? If you like Motown and Philly Soul, you'll either dig or be offended. This is probably more Gamble and Huff and Thom Bell and Linda Creed, vs. Holland-Dozier-Holland. Think Spinners, O'Jays, Delphonics, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, etc. Right on, man!

R&B/Soul

Now It's Time
Hard to categorize this song. It's pop, it's soft rock, it's indie, it's a little alternative folk-rock, in the vein of Nick Drake. I picked "easy listening/soft rock as a 2nd genre, but it's not "easy listening" to me. It's a pretty song, a little quirky, to me. Thanks for listening

Pop
h h

I'll Step Aside
Our model for this song, or at least my model, was Tame Impala's "Let it Happen." One of my favorite bands these days. Now, you may listen and not detect a smidgen of Tame Impala. I'm having trouble hearing much of that influence myself. But trust me, it was the inspiration. Anyway, to me, another kinda uncategorizable song. Could be rock, could be pop, could be alternative/indie, could be singer-songwriter. They don't have that category. If they did, that's probably the genre I'd pick for most

Alternative Modern Rock

Bitter Wine, featuring Katie Kuffel
A little Norah Jones-Diana Krall vibe, perhaps? Pop, jazz, blues, soul. It's in there. Katie Kuffel, an amazing talent and songwriter par excellance sings on this song, which I wrote. Thanks, Katie!

Pop

All You Ever Do is Rain
Another song inspired by the women in my life. I seem to pick a lot of "glass half-empty" types. "Debbie Downers." Thought about Eurythmics ("Here Comes the Rain Again")and Garbage ("Only Happy When it Rains") after this song came out.

Rock

What Happened to Us All?
A song about regret, Influences swirling around in my head as this song was being realized: The Beatles, Oasis, Genesis, Procol Harum, Death Cab for Cutie.

Alternative Retro and Psychedelic
h h

The Violence of Your Heart, featuring Katie Kuffel
People have said this reminds them of a Florence and the Machine song. Hey, I can hear that. To me, it's a little Amy and Adele, with some Laura Nyro in there. Definitely a soul/rock/pop hybrid. Katie's voice is so GREAT! She makes the song. Recorded at the legendary Robert Lang Studios.

Alternative Pop Rock
h h

I've Been Waiting, featuring Lucas Field
Anthemic. (Hopefully, not anemic.) A song about waiting. Waiting for love, waiting for the long arc of morality to bend toward justice, waiting for all of us to wake up and see. Influences/common ground range from Journey, Foreigner, Asia and U2 to Coldplay and ____________ (You fill in the blank).
