Robert Steven Williams writes fiction by day, songs by night. His song “Will You Come Out Tonight” won four Garageband.com awards in its first week on the Folk/Rock Charts and was track of the week in folk rock in March.
I Am Not My Job is Robert's first CD and features Rachel Z, the keyboard player from Peter Gabriel's touring band, as well as Sloan Wainwright on background harmonies. The actor, Keir Dullea, provides voiceovers on two songs -- Keir was Captain Bowman in Stanley Kubrik's 2001.
Many of these tracks have companion short stories. Two have already been published and posted on web sites. Hundreds visit his website each week to read his essays.
A twenty-year music industry veteran, Robert has spent the last eight years writing and attending workshops with such established writers as Rosanne Cash, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Steve Seskin, David Wilcox, Rivers Rutherford and Chuck Cannon. Robert has also taken fiction classes at the Gotham Writers’ Workshop, Zeotrope and the New School.
His company Against the Grain has recently established a joint venture with 615 Music in Nashville to create a song library targeted at the film and tv industry. Robert also teaches a workshop on how to place songs in indie film and TV.
