The opening ten note gesture is drawn from the letters of her name -- the entire rest of the piece is derived from those pitches and gestures. The work is cast in three sections. An opening section alternates dramatic statements with lyric phrases. The second, slower section further develops this lyric texture, building to a climax. The third section brings back the opening material and presses on to a coda.
