The artist behind Laurence Made Me Cry is multi-instrumentalist Jo Whitby, a West Country girl at heart but now making roots in the Welsh capital Cardiff. There’s an odd familiarity about the music of Laurence Made Me Cry. Her songs bring with them a sense of timelessness and warmth like meeting up with an old friend. Whitby’s use of folk and rock roots combined with electronic instruments and organic sounds spawn a myriad of landscapes and pictures for the listeners’ imagination to delve into.
Laurence Made Me Cry is currently busy recording ‘The Diary of Me’, an album exploring the dialogue we all have with our individual inner voice, with various collaborators in and outside the UK. The songs will act as snapshots of days, experiences and thoughts in a similar way a written diary would.
‘Me’, the main character in this project, is every one of us. It represents a personal side that may or may not feel awkward, appropriate, confident, secretive – our most inner core, the place where we search and find ourselves.

Hi there - yes it's a really friendly and encouraging community here. If you leave topics/interact in the Pipeline (basically short blog posts) people will really take an interest in your music and leave constructive feedback if and when you want it. Hope to see you around in the outside world too xx
