Painless Luxury
Song originally written for a Brian Epstein film bio project that apparently never got off the ground. The song was intended to accompany a kind of fantasy sequence where Bri is imagining being out on a ship far from the stress of running his business empire. At the end I thought the song stood on its own so...voila! I'm sure most will catch the massive Beatles wannabeness of the track but the real inspiration was "Something Else" era Kinks.

I'm So Tired
This is a cover of John's sonabulent White Album classic I did a couple of years ago; I tried to stay pretty close to the original but this version is a little peppier I think :-)

Three Strikes You're Out
Funky Motown influenced number with lyrics that let's say are on the light side. Fun, summertime number that somehow found its way under the Christmas tree.

Amateur Night
Ah ha....the dreaded "playing a dead-end gig in a dead-end dive" number dressed up as "Armed Forces" era Costello. Song recorded a while back that's been on and off my page a bit too often for anyone with good sense....anyway here 'tis again for you diggers of Nick Lowe, Graham Parker and 1978...

Always Be Yourself
Started out like something Eric Idle would've written about self-esteem but eventually got a bit more serious. Musically on the country rock side of things with a few daring twists during the chorus.

Ordinary Guy
Pop-rock candy with a dollop of country flavoured '80s Paisley Underground thrown in on the chorus - good rocking number.

Girl I Like Your Energy
Song sadly ignored by Lenny Kaye while he was putting together the original Nuggets compilation :-D Very much in the classic garage-rock style (Standells, Count Five, Seeds etc.) with a few modern twists in the lyrics.

Wanna-Gonna Get You
Yep, here I am trying to do a classic soul ballad number...kind of Curtis Mayfield trying to write for the Supremes. Lots of harmonies and instruments from Hammond organ to jaw harp. Sweet and kind of gooey.

Everything Money Can't Buy (2008 demo with vocals)
Sad song about money and success ruining a relationship. I know of a kind chap here who said many nice things about this song and...wanting to play it for a friend discovered an inferior instrumental version had taken its place. I always felt bad about that. Here 'tis again and 'twill remain :-)

Closing Time
Kind of a throwaway rocker written this summer just after getting back from a very sedate holiday at the lake. Apparently on a subconscious level I'd had other things on my mind.

Honest Man, Lonely Man
Song written a couple of years ago in the midst of the OWS movement; I tried going back to the type of music that fuelled the protest movements of the 1930s and mixing in a bit of humour. Even if "folk-protest" isn't really my bag I was pretty happy with the words that came out. All still unfortunately true now as I'm sure it will be for a long time to come.
