Philip Hannam (Pip and Merry), are a folk/roots/bluegrass performing duet. With a striking raw folk sound provided by Philips vocals and a complementing harmony vocal by Merry, Pip & Merry enjoy a raw bluegrass sound popular amongst listeners

True representatives of heart felt Folk/Country.
Transforming bare emotion into lyrics. Truly a landmark for English folk.( new york times.)
Most of the songs here are recorded in pips trailer just guitar, mandolin, tin can, and pip & merry, we sing live so these songs are not perfect but what is, love to you all. pip & merry. These songs bring refreshing depth and unaffected sincerity to their music. I hear elements of the Everley Brothers, deep blue ridge that never heard of Nashville, and some of what I will call "poor white gospel" (old smoky mountain church music). It is all relaxing, thoughtful, and wistful ...staggerlee .... POWERFUL SONGS A TREAT TO OLD & YOUNG EARS.

Album Review
Album review by Jonathan Penrose
"Listening to Echoes of Eternity you begin to wonder who wrote these songs, and why? I was asked to listen to this album by a friend. I have a lot of submissions day to day, some special, some not so special.
However, Echoes of Eternity proved to be very special. The first line of opening track Magic, Love and Unicorns, "I'm weary as hell, but i can tell the difference..." struck me like a folk thunderbolt from the sky! A sweet song about hell and hope i thought.
Liberty proved to be one of the most uplifting songs on the album. First written in the late nineties, it seems poignant and ahead of its time speaking of freedom, the divide between the east and west, terror, and how liberty is a debated issue. This was written prior to the September 11th bombings, and before songs on every issue of liberty became a mainstream selling point in America.
Safe in his Angels Arms is a folk-gospel track which recently won an award for Best Gospel song. It deserved it! Powerful, pleading and utterly naked. If you were going to listen to any one song on this album and let the rest of these gems pass you by, you would listen to this song.
Into the Storm is a ballad. It aches, it groans and cuts right into the heart of separation. Sometimes i never quite knew whether Philip was singing about a love lost, or a separation with his God. Either way, it is powerful.
Hush-a-Bye is a sweet song. I asked Philip about this, and he recounted how he wrote this early hours of a morning when bent over by a crippling, but passing problem after surgery. He explained he wanted to write a lullaby his mother might have sang to him as a young boy to comfort the pain, what he produced is a beautiful and simple ballad called Hush-a-Bye.
Tonight (in my imagination) is a lonely song. This seems to be a harrowing song about something...i say something because the writer seems to just stay away from really saying it. But it is this vague feeling that makes this song eery. It is also this vague feeling that makes it possible that each listener can relate to this song.
Petkovich is really the sole protest song. Recounting the horror of a killer during the Serbian-Kososvan conflict. This is a gritty subject, and in an age that loves to sing of horrors in the West, few singers got to grips with the uncomfortable stories that came out of that conflict.
The Writings on the Wall is an acapella vocal by Philip Hannam on the issue of his farewell to this earthly domain. The jewel to this song is Merry's harmony, which gives a feeling of uprising when faced with our end. "Man nor angel give me glory". Great song!
If i walked is a country track somewhat reminisant of an early John Prine. A jumpy and brightly song. You get the feeling that this was made to be sung at every folk night in Philip's nearby town of Beverley.
Ballad to Ophelia. A song written and performed by Philips very young son at that time. It could be argued that it is against the grain of the album, but in fact, it gives a great insight that next to Phlilip there is a younger one in the background starting to feel his feet.
Jordan is the closing track to this beautiful album. It is a gem of a song, and somehow leaves you quiet after the finishing strain. "Done all my work and i am going away, daylight follow me down".
A beautiful album and a pleasure to listen to. A thank you to the artists.

Congrats to my fellow Honorable Mention winners. We're in a unique little club! An award from the people is the best kind to have. Don't underestimate it's importance.
"We're the people that live. They can't wipe us out, they can't lick us. We'll go on forever, Pa, cos we're the people".......(a quote from the movie "Grapes Of Wrath" based on the novel by John Steinbeck)
