Policy: Artist/Admin Eligibility for Song Charting & other site activities, contests, etc.
With the implementation of the new charting system – see NEW CHARTING SYSTEM details below – there is now a clear transparency in the way songs are charted. Technical formulas decide song positions, not anyone in the administration of IAC or in any other related capacity.

As an artist who also happens to hold the position of CEO, I want to assure everyone that the new charting system removes the element of any perceived conflict of interest on my part or on the part of any present or future artist/administrator.

It would defeat the purpose of having our music on the website if song stats were artificially inflated since our goal is similar to that of many artist/members which is to see how our songs are evaluated in the marketplace. Limiting or excluding songs by artist/administrators or curtailing our involvement in other site events and programs would not be fair to us or to the musicians who play and/or sing on our songs.

In summary, the new charting system shines a light on all the ways that a song moves on the charts, either up or down. I have been assured that no one in administration or in any other official capacity at either IACMusic.com or KIAC Media, LLC has any opportunity to manipulate the technical aspects of what determines chart positions, and I wanted to pass this same assurance along to all members. The playing field is level for all who present their music here.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this or any other matter regarding IACMusic.com please do not hesitate to let us know.

NEW CHARTING SYSTEM

IAC's new charts make use of all available and relevant factors to produce consistent, clear, and trusted charts ranking the songs on IACmusic.com overall, by genre, and by sub-genre, with song popularity and song quality being major factors.

The base ranking of songs is by overall number of plays in a rolling 60-day period, with the recency of plays, degree of uniqueness, and average play duration as co-factors.

Also, new factors have been added to the formula, with the objective of making the charts more representative, and more dynamic:

Song Station inclusion weighted by popularity of station: songs are ranked higher the more top 1000 stations they are included on.

Song Age factor: a song's overall rank is degraded after six months on the charts, going in steps to a maximum of 25% after one year, to favor new material.

IAC commerce: song sales or included-on album sales boost a song's ranking.

Onsite plays versus offsite plays: offsite plays will count at 75% of the value of onsite plays.

Daily Plays: Plays are now stored in the database by the day instead of by the month in which they occur, which means that there is now a Daily Plays listing option, in which each individual play's time, date, and source are listed.

so basically the stats are generated in such a well-measured fashion, which directs the charting; all done by a computer.

therefore: we SHOULD get excited about top 10 tunes & such, eh mates?
