IAC announces the
KIAC Best of 2009 Songs Competition, a combination judged/voted open
competition in 15 genres, plus a Songwriting “genre” for demo quality,
with the Category winners moving on to an Overall competition, and
featuring fabulous first, second, and third prizes in the Category
competitions as well as the Overall.
Each Category
contest will accept entries of songs deemed by the entrant to be appropriately
placed. Songs may be entered in multiple Categories, and must be entered by
persons possessing the relevant rights or specific permission. Songs must be
available for judges and the general public to listen to during the entire
competition period, on an artist page at IACmusic.com, with such pages to be
either a page for the individual artist of the song, or for the management or
label.
A Category
contest will be held in the following Categories: Alternative, Alternative Pop
Rock, Blues & Jazz, Classic and Retro Rock, Classical and Easy Listening,
Country, Electronic/Industral/Ambient, Folk/Acoustic Rock/Americana, Hard Rock
& Metal, Hip Hop/Rap/Dance, Pop, Punk/Emo/Ska, R&B/Soul, Rock,
Songwriting, World. Cover songs may not be entered.
Genre
contest procedure
Before
a song can be entered, it must be on an IAC artist page. If not already there,
the song must be
uploaded to the
artist's existing page. If the artist or management does not yet have a page at
IAC, a page must be created at
http://iacmusic.com/quicksignup.aspx .
To enter a song in a genre contest, login to the account holding the page where
the song is listed and click on the link “Enter
Songs in KIAC Best of 2009 Songs Competition”
which will appear during the length of of the entry period, July 4 – August 22.
The Enter Songs page that comes up will list all of the songs on the artist
page, and will allow songs to be entered in any genre contest.
Entered songs
can be seen and, after voting opens, voted upon, on associated Category
Stations, with will be listed on the
Stations homepage as
well as on the
Category Stations Page.
These are special Stations with added capabilities allowing
voting and daily progress monitoring by the public.
There
will be three elimination rounds. The first lasts one week and the
final two last 2 weeks each. This is when artists and listeners
can vote. The public may vote for up to 10 songs per Category once
per day, per account. At the close of each elimination round, songs
in each Category will be ranked according to a formula combining
the number of popular votes received (50%) and the corresponding
tally of the panel of judges (50%) with the bottom half
eliminated in the round. .
In
each category contest, following the three elimination rounds there will
be a final round of public voting, wherein voters may vote for up to three
songs in each genre, per day per. Judges will also rank the
finalists. At the close of the competition, the final
order will be ranked with 50% weight to the total number of public votes
and 50% weight to the judges' section. Prizes will be awarded for
first, second, and third place in each category contest as follows:
First Prize, a free
weeklong stay in a premium condo in one of fifteen prime resort locations for
two to four people (winners responsible for transportation and living expenses
during stay). There are no strings attached, no presentations to attend. Also:
free entry into the KIAC Best of 2009 Overall Song Competition.
Second
Prize, an iPod Shuffle.
Third
Prize, a free 4-day, 3 night stay in a premium condo in one of fifteen prime
resort locations for two to four people (winners responsible for transportation
and living expenses during stay). There are no strings attached, no
presentations to attend.
The
Overall contest entries will consist of the Category contest winners, and
will be voted on in the same manner except with just two elimination rounds and
a final round. Prizes for the Overall contest are as follows:
Grand
Prize - In addition to the category prize the Grand Prize winner will receive a
$1000 worth of recording or musical gear System, an additional week added to
their vacation suite, an iPod Shuffle and an IAC Prime Perpetual membership.
Runner
Up Grand Prize - In addition to the category prize, the runner up will receive
an iPod Shuffle and an IAC Prime Perpetual membership.Overall prizes)
Also,
songs making it to the last round of any genre competition or the Overall will
be featured on the IACmusic.com website over several months, and will be
invited to appear on Genre or Overall compilation CDs. All prizewinners will
also be invited to be on compilation CDs, KIAC stations, and will have their
songs displayed on IACmusic.com pages with appropriate insignia and credits,
i.e. “Winner, KIAC Best of 2009 Open Songs Competition, Rock”.
We
look forward to having a lot of fun with these contests, and we do expect it
will bring a lot of attention and play to the entered artists, not just to the
ultimate winners. But the title is something to be proud of and one which
artists can aspire. We hope you will join in the KIAC Best of 2009 Open Songs
