This is from the point of view of an abused child who gets visited by the non-custodial parent (who comes in a big car and to the child, is like god coming down the street in a chariot). The child has fun, and feels safe, but then the time comes to be returned to the abusive home. The child is afraid to say anything to the parent, but wishes the parent would see how much they're hurting.

The Chariot

How can you just turn away
My spirit fades each day you make me stay

God...here you come
In your chariot
Come to take me away

Here with you
The sun is brighter than it's ever been

But it's time to go
I hope that you'll notice how I don't glow like you
Please don't take me back

How can you just turn away
My spirit fades each day you make me

Hide my face in my disgrace
I know there's life beyond this black embrace

How can you just turn away
How can you turn away and leave me here
My spirit fades each day you make me
My spirit fades each and every day you make me stay
Hide my face in my disgrace
And hide my face in my disgrace
I know there's life beyond this black embrace
There's got to be another life beyond this black embrace

And face the truth for once
Face the truth just once for me
For me

I'm just a child
I promise I'll be sweet
I promise I'll be sweet

This song should be heard by all. I felt the sorrow in this song and almost cried. It kills me to know that child abuse goes on daily. Please listen to this song and READ the lyrics.

Musings
Love the atmosphere of this song! Great percussion and rythms throughout. Beautiful backing vocals. This song is very "breathy" in nature having something in it of a blowing wind or maybe a whisper. Good Stuff! -M-
