Steve April
The Wonderer
I've added this solely because the lyric is too good to be missed. Damn fine tune as well, though, with a clever use of sparing instrumentation where it can be spared, and the ending is just as it should be

The Juggernaut Rolls On
Here's a really happy, yee-haw, stick ma thumbs in ma dungaree straps and kick ma feet out, a mint julep would be most kind ma'am, bring on the jug band, ya'll come back now ya heah? tune, with a surprising middle eight, but the lyrics are deadly serious. Subversive

Stab Bastards Eat Candy
Kill The Elderly
Please read carefully before clicking on this: if you don't have a warped sense of humour, or a natural grasp of irony, stop now and go to another song. I'm a registered nurse who specialises in the care of older people, my respect for them is bigger than anything else in my life, but my patients have come out with much worse than anything said here. Finally: please direct all complaints to SBEC...

The Living Dolls
Nancy
Let's get my prejudices out of the way: I love harpsichord, well thought out (and well played) bass lines get me every time, and I just want the world to get back to 1968, when it was all going to change... So, apart from that, what could I possibly like about this song? There's the vocals, I suppose, and the great lyric, and the whole feel of it... Apart from that, not much, really

Our Mutual Friends
As I Hold You
How English can you get? It's apologising to the person who just stood on your foot, it's holding the door open for a flood of people who very skilfully don't catch your eye - yep, this song is all that and more, 'mustn't grumble' incarnate. Ooh ooh ooh I wish I'd written it

I Know A Good Thing
I've been listening to Steve's songs for a while now. I haven't the words to do them justice, sorry. Try this one, try not to be moved, I defy you

LOLITA
Following on from my last review of this mob (serendipity V): this is why we stuffed ourselves in little vans, risking life and limb, dodging the pools of battery acid from the last load, working out that what we were getting for the gig would just about cover the driver's petrol and beer money, once we'd bought a drink for the bloke who'd lent us the PA. It's the music, the audience, the sheer joy of doing what you love. It's all here, in every glorious note
