I have been writing songs for over 20 years and singing and playing guitar since I was a child. I grew up in a family of writers and my mother was into the folk scene so we were either at poetry readings or folk clubs. I was destined to do something arty and so here I am today still writing songs and playing guitar. One of the most important influences for me was after I won a song writers competition for my song ""Pukerua Bay"", at the Auckland Folk festival in 1990. I won time in a recording studio where I recorded my first album ""Drifting at Whananaki"". The following year in 1991 at the Auckland Folk Festival, I came runner up for my song ""Totara Berry"" after my sister came 1st for her song ""Missing"". I was on my way as a young musician and have since completed a 3 year music diploma and 1st year university music paper where I learnt to read music and play basic piano. I recorded another album in 2004 called ""Metal Roads"" and have another album in the wings.

The Mud Pie Sun is Steven and Tom quietly and slowly puttering around with their odd little vision of popular music. They write and record quiet and loud melodic pop-psych-folk-garage-and-so-forth songs in their Philadelphia area homes.
In 1989, inspired by the American and New Zealand underground DIY pop and home-recording ethic, they began home recording 4-track cassette albums along with pal Rob. In the early 1990s, they released 3 full-length recordings under the name Mud Pie on their own and through England's Acid Tapes, and they contributed to a compilation on Boston's Sedimental label. When Tom moved to San Francisco in 1992, the combo went on extended leave.

This song is frickin cool. Can totally identify with making some great music with whatever recording equipment you've got, and the low budget sound adds to the kick assedness of this song. It's groovy, distinctly European sounding, and would probably be a great car ride tune. The guitar hits give an awesome rhythm to move to, only to be dropped and replaced by some disembodied guitar soloing out of any kind of formal structure, which works perfectly in this song. The song then rebuilds and deconstructs itself a few times while always maintaining its overlaying smooth sound. Just a great listen.
