Nat Jay took her first steps in her parents' music school and continues to land on her feet in the world of music today. With her single, "Love When I Can" featured on ABC's Men In Trees in March 2008, an appearance on CBC Radio 2's "Canada Live," and the highly anticipated summer release of her debut EP, Lights Across the Sky, the young talent has hit the ground running and doesn't plan on slowing down anytime soon.
After studying music at the University of British Columbia as a flautist and vocalist, she put her education to use as an emerging singer/ songwriter in the burgeoning Vancouver music scene. Compared with such powerhouse voices as Brandi Carlile, KT Tunstall and Natalie Maines (the Dixie Chicks), Nat Jay's compelling and highly accomplished vocal delivery will certainly turn heads in a noisy club, but it is her emotive songwriting ability that will steal the hearts of each and every audience member.
“I grew up surrounded by music of all kinds—it made such an impression on me as a child and has been such a big part of my life ever since, so there’s nothing better than when someone tells me that my music has made an impression on THEM,” says Jay, whose devoted fan base is growing daily. “I write what I see and feel in my own life and in the world around me, and I guess that’s what people relate to.”
Earlier this year, after "Love When I Can" appeared on network television in the final three minutes of an emotional episode, Jay received an overwhelming response from new fans across North America, gaining over 10,000 plays on Myspace in the weeks following.
Nat Jay may be a rising pop songstress, but her folk influences have also earned her the respect of the independent music industry, notably when performing alongside several esteemed songwriters, such as Justin Rutledge (for Live Nation) and Dan Mangan. In 2008, Nat Jay is sharing her music with fans on both sides of the continent, with showcases at New Music West (Vancouver), NXNE (Toronto), and the Vancouver Folk Music Festival, as well as tour dates in Ontario, B.C., Alberta, and into the United States.
